A man was accused of murdering his brother in September 2016, allegedly with others, by beating him and running a tractor over his body in front of eyewitnesses. The High Court granted the accused bail. The Supreme Court cancelled the bail, finding the High Court had acted without proper justification and overlooked the severity of the charges, eyewitness evidence, ante-mortem injuries, and subsequent threats to the complainant. The Court criticised the State for failing to oppose the bail application and ordered the trial court to complete proceedings within six months. The accused may apply for fresh bail later, to be considered independently."
