In Brief
The Supreme Court dismissed contempt petitions filed by Narmada Bachao Andolan against respondents for allegedly violating orders from an earlier judgment regarding land in five villages affected by the Omkareshwar Dam. The petitioner claimed respondents failed to raise the road level to prevent submergence. The Court held that the earlier judgment did not impose an obligation to construct a complete embankment preventing all submergence. Instead, it required only providing access to villagers' lands. Given that temporary submergence was beneficial to agriculture, the respondents could not be held in contempt for not raising the road level as claimed.
