In Brief
The petitioner, a journalist and news anchor, challenged multiple FIRs registered against him across different states arising from a TV debate telecast on 26 May 2022, alleging offences under sections of the Indian Penal Code. Since FIRs against co-accused Nupur Sharma in the same incident had been transferred to Delhi Police's IFSO Unit, the petitioner sought similar transfer for parity. The Court held that multiple FIRs from the same incident cannot be investigated by different agencies for different co-accused. Accordingly, all FIRs were transferred to IFSO Unit for unified investigation, with Delhi Police IFSO cases as lead matters. The Court imposed an eight-week moratorium on coercive action and directed that any future FIRs relating to the same incident be automatically transferred to IFSO Unit."
