In Brief
The Supreme Court examined a dispute over government land leased to the Orissa Olympic Association. The association had constructed 23 shops and a Kalyan Mandap (palace) on the disputed area. The Court held that part of these structures stood on government land (not within the leased area) and that the association could not legally construct thereon. The Court rejected the association's plea of adverse possession and found that the agreement with M/s. INCON Associates involved a manifest conflict of interest since the association's secretary's son and son-in-law were partners. The Court directed the state to resume the encroached land, cancelled the INCON agreement, and initiated a CBI investigation into revenue accounting irregularities.
