Parasmal Lodha vs Director General of Police and Ors

Bench: 3 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

Parasmal Lodha sought parole from Tihar Jail to participate in the last rites of his deceased mother in Calcutta. The petitioner was an undertrial prisoner facing multiple CBI cases. The Supreme Court granted parole from 9 March 2017 to 28 March 2017 on humanitarian grounds, subject to continuous armed escort by CBI officers not below Deputy Superintendent rank. The petitioner was required to bear all travel and security costs and had to surrender on 29 March 2017. The Court balanced the humanitarian need with security requirements.
