This appeal concerned the validity of an election held on 2 August 2014 by the State Bar Council of Madhya Pradesh to elect its representative to the Bar Council of India. The Supreme Court upheld the High Court's decision that the election of Shri Pratap Mehta was invalid. The Court held that the special meeting on 2 August 2014 was convened merely to consider disputed letters from members about prior proceedings, not to continue a prior meeting. Crucially, no separate notice and agenda specifically for the election were issued as required by Bar Council of India Rules. The Court affirmed that the High Court properly exercised its supervisory jurisdiction to correct this clear error of law without improperly reappreciating factual evidence.
