In Brief
The Supreme Court allowed an appeal by the father of a deceased bride against the High Court's order granting post-conviction bail to the husband sentenced for dowry death (Section 304B IPC), dowry harassment (Section 498A), criminal breach of trust (Section 406), and dowry prohibition violations. The Court held that post-conviction bail requires strong compelling reasons recorded in writing, unlike pre-trial bail. The appellate court cannot re-examine trial evidence merely to suspend sentence. Evidence showed the bride died within 8.5 months of marriage after harassment for additional dowry and payment of Rs. 2,50,000. The Court set aside the bail order and directed the husband's surrender to custody."
