Three bank employees (K.C. Sareen, V.K. Bhatia, and K.S. Thukral) were convicted of criminal charges under the IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act, and dismissed from service. All three were subsequently acquitted by the Supreme Court (though two on benefit of doubt, one by the trial court). Upon reinstatement, they sought full back-wages. The High Court awarded full wages; the Supreme Court partly allowed the Bank's appeal, modifying the award to 50% of back-wages. The Court reasoned that while acquittal may overturn conviction, it does not fully restore the legal consequences of dismissal, especially where acquittal was on benefit of doubt rather than proof of innocence.">
