Rajendra Singh appealed against his murder conviction for killing Satyapal Singh on 1 December 1994. A Sessions Judge had acquitted him, but the High Court reversed that decision and convicted him under Section 302 IPC for firing a fatal bullet from his revolver at close range. The Supreme Court upheld the conviction, finding the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt and the High Court properly appreciated the evidence. However, noting the appellant had served over 14 years in prison, the Court directed the State to consider his eligibility for remission and release under applicable Criminal Procedure Code rules if mandatory conditions were met. The appeal was dismissed.
