Ram Janam Kumar challenged a High Court order in a murder case involving the death of Ramdani Singh. The trial court had convicted the respondents under Section 304-II IPC (death caused by act endangering life) and sentenced them to seven years imprisonment. The High Court downgraded the charge to Section 325 IPC (voluntarily causing hurt) and reduced the sentence to three months to one year. The Supreme Court modified this order, holding that given the injuries on vital parts of the deceased, including a head injury, a sentence of at least three years rigorous imprisonment was appropriate. The respondents were ordered to surrender and undergo the remaining sentence as originally awarded by the trial court."
