The Supreme Court heard a contempt of court appeal challenging the conviction of a purchaser for violating an interim injunction order. The appellant, an elderly man, had purchased property from a vendor who was restrained by court order from alienating it. Although the sale deed was executed during the pendency of the injunction, the Court allowed the appeal. It held that without clear evidence of willful disobedience and knowledge of the order, contempt proceedings cannot succeed. Since the original vendor was acquitted of the same charge, the purchaser could not be held to a higher standard.
