The Supreme Court dismissed the appeal of a landowner seeking further enhancement of compensation for land acquired by the State of Punjab under the Land Acquisition Act, 1894 for construction of the Satluz-Yamuna canal. The High Court had partly allowed the appeal and enhanced compensation rates for three classes of land in village Bhago Majra (Chahi, Barani, Gair mumkin) by applying appropriate deductions and escalations based on location, quality, and distance from Chandigarh. The Court held that the High Court had properly considered all relevant factors and applied a defensible methodology, with no demonstrable error meriting further enhancement. The appeal was dismissed.
