Reckitt Benckiser (India) Private Limited vs Reynders Label Printing India Private Limited and Anr

Bench: 2 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

Reckitt Benckiser sought appointment of a sole arbitrator to resolve a dispute with Reynders Label Printing India, claiming it was international commercial arbitration. The Supreme Court dismissed the application against the respondent on the ground that international commercial arbitration was not established. However, the Court upheld the valid arbitration agreement and appointed Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed (Former Chief Justice) as the sole arbitrator to conduct domestic commercial arbitration between the parties under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996. The petition was partly allowed with no costs awarded.
