In Brief
The Reserve Bank of India sought consolidation of writ petitions filed in multiple High Courts challenging the validity of the Banking Regulation (Amendment) Act 2020 and an RBI circular issued in 2021. The petitions were pending before 12 different High Courts. The Supreme Court held that consolidation was warranted in the interests of justice given the common legal questions involved. All pending writ petitions were transferred to the High Court of Madras for final disposal, and the Court directed that all future petitions challenging the same Act and circular be transferred immediately to that Court."
