S. Senthil Kumaran Bose vs State of Tamil Nadu and Ors

Bench: 2 — J.K. Maheshwari, Atul S. Chandurkar

In Brief

The Supreme Court addressed a prolonged recruitment dispute for 113 Motor Vehicle Inspector posts announced by Tamil Nadu in 2018. After years of litigation, the High Court had ordered the entire selection process redone due to administrative gaps in workshop approval renewal procedures. The Court held that while administrative errors must be corrected, they don't justify scrapping an entire verified selection process. Since the Motor Vehicles Department had now verified candidate credentials, the Court directed the Public Service Commission to finalize appointments from the verified candidate pool promptly, ending the decade-long recruitment stalemate.
