Bench: 2 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

A husband and wife petitioned the Supreme Court under Article 32 seeking a medical board evaluation to determine whether the wife's pregnancy should be terminated due to grave danger to her mental and physical health. The Court constituted a medical board of seven senior doctors at SSKM Hospital, Kolkata to examine the petitioner and the fetus at 25 weeks of pregnancy. Upon receiving the board's report recommending termination due to risk of severe mental injury to the mother, with acceptable termination risks, the Court allowed the petition and directed medical termination of pregnancy.
