Two CRPF constables, Satish Chandra Yadav and Pushpendra Kumar Yadav, were terminated from service after suppressing information about pending criminal cases when filling out verification forms during recruitment. Although both were later acquitted, the Supreme Court held that suppression of material information regarding criminal prosecution—not the ultimate acquittal—is the relevant ground for termination. The Court reaffirmed that verification of character and antecedents is crucial for uniformed services. Probationers can be discharged without inquiry for providing false information, regardless of the gravity of the offence or eventual acquittal. The employer retains discretion to terminate service when credibility and trustworthiness are compromised, though special circumstances may be considered. Both appeals were dismissed.
