In Brief
The Supreme Court clarified that a post-acquisition allottee (purchaser after land has vested in the State) has no legal standing or locus to participate in compensation determination proceedings under the Land Acquisition Act. The court held that once land vests in the State following the Collector's award, acquisition is complete, and the State may transfer it at any price independent of court-determined compensation. Financial liability for enhanced compensation under an allotment deed does not confer participation rights. The court distinguished allottees from statutory beneficiaries named in acquisition notifications, holding the former are neither necessary nor proper parties. The High Court's order permitting impleadment and additional evidence after years of delay was set aside and remanded for fresh decision.
