In Brief
Sheshrao was convicted of murder (Section 302 IPC) for his involvement in a violent scuffle with the complainant's family that resulted in the death of the complainant's father 17 days later. The Supreme Court reviewed the medical evidence and nature of injuries and found no convincing proof that Sheshrao intended to kill the deceased. The Court accordingly downgraded the conviction from murder to causing death by negligence (Section 304 Part-II IPC). Since Sheshrao had already served 8.5 years in prison, the Court deemed this sufficient punishment and ordered his immediate release.
