In Brief
Medical students studying at Sardar Rajas Medical College had to be transferred to other private medical colleges when the institution faced closure. The Supreme Court held that the Trust running the college must compensate these students for the disruption caused, as they were forced from institutional certainty to uncertainty. The Court rejected the Trust's argument that its compensation liability should depend on resolving separate disputes with the Medical Council of India. Instead, it directed the Trust to deposit ₹2 crores and ordered transferred students be treated as members of their original academic batch to prevent loss of a year, with the Medical Council confirming degree recognition and equal facilities in new institutions.
