In Brief
The Supreme Court dismissed appeals by the State of Chhattisgarh challenging a Labour Court award in favour of workmen. The High Court's Single Judge had wrongly classified workmen as eligible or ineligible based on ten years of service. The Court held that the only legal test is whether a workman completed 240 days of service within one year—not length of service. The Court directed the State to follow proper Industrial Disputes Act procedures if it lacked sufficient work, rather than challenge the workmen's status. The appeals were dismissed.
