The State of Karnataka had filed criminal appeals against Srinivasa and others. During pendency of one appeal (Criminal Appeal No. 1497 of 2013), the sole respondent died. The High Court submitted a report and death certificate confirming the death. The Supreme Court held that the appeal abates when the sole respondent dies.
