State of Uttar Pradesh vs Amit Pal Singh

Bench: 2 — Kurian

In Brief

The State challenged a bail order granted to Amit Pal Singh, a licensee of Guru Ram Das Armoury in Kanpur, accused of involvement in illegal arms sales. The State's affidavit revealed that 26 arms licenses for weapons sold by the armoury could not be verified, a co-accused was arrested with rifles purchased from the armoury while attempting to sell them to Naxalites, and weapons were allegedly improvised with foreign parts and resold. The Supreme Court set aside the bail order and remitted the matter to the High Court for fresh consideration in light of these serious allegations, requesting expeditious disposal within three months."
