Tata Housing Development Company Ltd vs Aalok Jagga and Others

Bench: 3 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

Tata Housing Development Company appealed against the cancellation of approvals for a housing project near Chandigarh. The project was located approximately 1,500 meters from Sukhna Lake and only 123 meters from a Wildlife Sanctuary. The Supreme Court upheld the cancellation, holding that no housing project can be permitted at such proximity to a wildlife sanctuary. The Court found that the proximity violated environmental protection standards and quashed all clearances and approvals obtained for the project.
