The Supreme Court examined whether the integrity of the 2024 National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for medical admissions had been compromised at a systemic level and whether a fresh examination should be directed. While acknowledging isolated question paper leaks in Patna and Hazaribagh affecting approximately 155 students, and systemic security lapses by the National Testing Agency, the Court found insufficient evidence of widespread malpractice. Data analysis showed no abnormal performance patterns across 4,750 centres and 571 cities compared to previous years. The Court held that the petitioner's allegations were not substantiated by material on record, and as beneficiaries of fraud could be segregated, cancellation of the entire exam was unwarranted. However, the Court directed revision of answers to one disputed question and issued comprehensive directions to strengthen NEET's security and administrative procedures.
