In Re: Anurag Thakur, Former President of B.C.C.I

Bench: 3 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

In a suo moto contempt petition against Anurag Thakur, former President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, the Supreme Court dropped the contempt proceedings. The contemnor filed a categorical, unconditional apology expressing genuine regret after the Court directed him to do so. On 14 July 2017, the contemnor appeared personally and reaffirmed his sincere apology. Citing the entire factual context, the Court found that the earlier statements resulted from mis-information or mis-communication, which had been remedied. The Court accordingly discharged the notice and dismissed the contempt proceedings under Section 340 Cr.P.C.
