Yadav Singh was arrested in February 2017 on money laundering charges. After 60 days in custody without a charge sheet being filed, he applied for bail in default on 1 May 2017. The prosecution filed the charge sheet the next day. The High Court dismissed his bail plea. The Supreme Court allowed the appeal, holding that once an accused files an application for default bail and offers to furnish bail, the right to bail vests immediately and cannot be defeated by subsequent filing of the charge sheet. The Court granted bail on specified conditions.
