On December 27, 2022, The Allahabad High Court ordered to quash the draft notification issued by the UP government regarding the reservation for OBCs in the Upcoming ULB elections. The UP government filed a Special Leave Petition before the Supreme Court against the verdict of the Allahabad High Court to conduct the elections without involving the OBC quota. The Chief Minister of UP stated that a commission would be set up by the state government for extending the quota benefits to OBCs according to the triple test formula.
