The Delhi High Court has directed the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to take immediate steps to stop sewage leakage from an open drain in the Shaheen Bagh area of the national capital.
A Division Bench observed that the presence of untreated sewage on public roads is creating serious difficulties for commuters and residents, apart from posing health and safety concerns. The Court noted that such conditions cannot be allowed to persist in a densely populated area.
During the hearing, the Court instructed the Delhi Jal Board to coordinate with other concerned authorities, including the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the Public Works Department, to identify the cause of the leakage and ensure that corrective measures are taken without delay.
The Bench also directed the concerned agencies to conduct a site inspection and place a status report on record outlining the steps taken to resolve the issue.
The directions were issued in proceedings relating to civic infrastructure and waterlogging issues in different parts of Delhi. The Court emphasized the responsibility of public authorities to maintain proper sanitation and drainage systems.
The matter has been listed for further consideration after the status report is filed.
