Notices issued by the Supreme Court on petitions on Same Sex Marriage

Two judge bench of Supreme Court comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha issued notice in two different petitions on same sex marriage. 

The first petition was filed by Kavita Arora, a 47 year-old psychiatrist seeking the transfer of the case from the Delhi High Court to the Supreme Court.

The other petition filed by Nibedita Dutta, prayed for a writ of mandamus interpreting the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955. The petitioners have prayed that the Hindu Marriage Act, in violation of Articles 14, 15, 19, and 21 should be declared unconstitutional as yet it does not recognize a same sex Hindu marriage.
