PIL in Delhi High Court Raises Concern Over Speeding E-Rickshaws, Seeks Regulation

New Delhi:
A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed before the Delhi High Court raising concerns over the unsafe operation of e-rickshaws in the national capital and seeking stricter regulation of their movement.

The petition highlights issues such as overspeeding, violation of traffic rules, and lack of compliance with safety norms by several e-rickshaws operating on Delhi roads. It alleges that weak enforcement of existing regulations has contributed to an increase in road accidents, posing risks to pedestrians and commuters.

The petitioner has urged the Court to direct the concerned authorities to ensure strict adherence to traffic laws and regulatory schemes governing e-rickshaws. The plea also seeks measures to regulate registrations and action against vehicles operating without valid permits, insurance, or fitness certificates.

The Delhi High Court has issued notice to the concerned authorities, calling for their response to the issues raised in the PIL. The matter is expected to be considered further after replies are filed.
