After a week-long Dussehra vacation, today, the Supreme Court (SC) of India heard a habeas corpus petition filed by Dr. Gitanjali J. Angmo, wife of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, against his detention under the National Security Act, 1980, following the recent violent protests in Ladakh. The two-judge bench consisting of Justice Aravind Kumar and Justice NV Anjaria said that the bench will hear the matter on October 14, 2025 (Tuesday). Along with this, the top court granted permission to Dr. Angmo to meet his husband (Mr. Wangchuk) in jail.

Earlier, on October 02, 2025, Dr. Angmo filed a Habeas Corpus petition in the Supreme Court. In a post on social media, she wrote, “I have sought relief from the Supreme Court of India through a habeas corpus petition against Wangchuk’s detention. It is one week today. Still I have no information about Sonam Wangchuk’s health, the condition he is in, nor the grounds of detention.”
