The Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha was approached against the impugned judgment delivered by the Jammu and Kashmir High Court. The impugned judgment stated that moviegoers should not be prohibited to bring their own water and food items inside the cinema hall. Also, the sale price of the tickets should be uniform in all cinemas irrespective of their location. The bench stated that if the ticket has a condition that there has to be no outside food, then that will bind you. No one forced the moviegoers to buy the eatables from inside but the owner has the right to sell their own products or items. Moreover, it would be unfair to charge the same rate for tickets for every theatre despite its location and facilities provided. The top court further declared that the cinemas had to provide free hygienic drinking water to the moviegoers as well as they should not object to a reasonable food carried for the infant.
