Today, Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal mentioned the matter related to the release of the controversial film ‘The Kerala Story’ before the Supreme Court for urgent listing. While highlighting the urgency of the matter, he said, “This is pertaining to the Kerala Story. This has some sort of urgency. The High Court has passed the order, they’ve refused the interim stay.” The bench after considering Advocate Sibal’s request then agreed to hear the matter on May 15, 2023.

Earlier on May 5, the bench of the Kerala High Court including Justice Sophy Thomas and Justice N. Nagaresh refused to stay the release of the film. The bench observed that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had certified the film for public viewing. Moreover, CJI DY Chandrachud while hearing the matter on May 4, 2023, refused to entertain the plea and said, “You must think of the actors and producer, they have all put their labor. You must be very careful about staying film. The market will decide if it is not up to the mark.”
