Today (September 01, 2023), the Supreme Court bench comprising Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Justice AS Oka, and Justice Vikram Nath sentenced life imprisonment to RJD (Rashtriya Janta Dal) leader and former member of Parliament Prabhunath Singh in the 1955 double murder case. The bench also directed him and the Bihar government to pay Rs. 10 lakh each and Rs. 5 lakh each to the families of the two deceased victims and injured victims respectively. In 2017, he was convicted and lodged in Hazaribagh jail in Jharkhand. Earlier on August 18, the SC bench set aside the order of the two lower courts (Trial Court in 2008 and Patna High Court in 2012) and found Mr. Singh guilty of the 1955 double murder case.
