Centre notifies the appointment of Justice N. Kotiswar Singh and Justice R. Mahadevan as the Supreme Court judges

Today (July 16), the Centre notified the appointment of Justice N. Kotiswar Singh and Justice R. Mahadevan as the Supreme Court judges. The Supreme Court will now function at its full strength (34 judges) after the two appointed judges are sworn in. Earlier on July 11, the Supreme Court Collegium passed a resolution recommending the appointment of Justice N. Kotiswar Singh and Justice R. Mahadevan as Supreme Court judges. Union Law Minister Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal informed this through his official X (earlier known as Twitter) handle. He posted, “In exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution of India, Hon’ble President, after consultation with Hon’ble Chief Justice of India, is pleased to appoint the following as Supreme Court Judges:-

  • Justice N. Kotiswar Singh, Chief Justice, High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, [PHC: Manipur]
  • Justice R. Mahadevan, Judge, Madras High Court.”

Justice Singh will be the first SC judge from Manipur.
