Delhi Riots Larger Conspiracy case: Supreme Court for the 13th time adjourns Umar Khalid’s bail plea to February 07, 2024

On February 01, 2024, the Supreme Court (SC) of India adjourned the hearing of former JNU scholar and activist Umar Khalid’s bail plea in connection with the 2020 Delhi riots larger conspiracy case (for the 13th time) to February 07 (Wednesday). The matter was mentioned for hearing before a two-judge bench consisting of Justice Bela M. Trivedi and Justice Pankaj Mithal. The hearing has been adjourned several times since the SC’s notice on May 18, 2023, concerning Khalid’s plea. On September 14, 2020, Umar Khalid was arrested by the Delhi Police and has been in jail since then. He was booked under Section 13, Section 16, Section 17, and Section 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, Section 3 and Section 4 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984, and Section 25 and Section 27 of the Arms Act, 1959
