Designated Senior Advocates Will Not Be Allowed To Orally Mention Matters In The SC From August 11: CJI

Today (August 6, 2025), the Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai directed that designated senior advocates will not be allowed to mention matters before the Supreme Court (Court No. 1) from next Monday, August 11, 2025. The statement was made when Senior Advocate Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi appeared before the top court to mention a matter orally. CJI further asked to let juniors take the opportunity to make an oral mention of the matter. He told the court to issue a notice to that effect, “Notice nikaal dena (put out a notice) 'no mentioning to be allowed by senior counsel'. From Monday no designated senior counsel will be allowed to mention matters. Let the juniors get an opportunity to do it.”
