Shiv Sena Rift: Supreme Court to deliver judgment today

Today, the Constitution bench of the Supreme Court is hearing the Shiv Sena case related to the rift between Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde factions. The judgment is anticipated to be delivered today which will decide the fate of the present government in Maharashtra. The bench is dealing with the issue of disqualification of 16 MLAs who belong to Shinde’s sena. Disqualification notices were sent to them for not attending a party meeting organized by then CM Uddhav Thackeray. The bench hearing the matter includes Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice Krishna Murari, Justice PS Narasimha, Justice MR Shah, and Justice Hima Kohli. The hearing was first started on 14 February 2023, and on 16 March 2023, the judgment was reserved. The matter was heard on the grounds of merits from February 21. Senior Advocates Neeraj Kishan Kaul, Mahesh Jethmalani, Maninder Singh, and Harish Salve argued for the Shinde faction. Senior Advocates Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Devadatt Kamat, and Kapil Sibal argued for the Uddhav faction. Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta argued for the Maharashtra Governor.
