Supreme Court to deliver the much-anticipated judgment on pleas seeking legal validation for same-sex and queer marriages today

The Supreme Court of India is scheduled to deliver the much-anticipated judgment on pleas seeking legal validation for same-sex and queer marriages today. A Constitution bench including Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice Hima Kohli, Justice S Ravindra Bhat, Justice PS Narasimha, and Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul. Earlier on May 11, 2023, a five-judge Constitution bench reserved its verdict on the pleas related to the validation of same-sex marriage after hearing the matter for 10 days. The SC bench has clarified that it will not deal with the Hindu Marriage Act or personal laws and confined the case to the Special Marriage Act, 1954.
