The Supreme Court has upheld the decision of the Madras High Court division Bench by which Edappadi Palani Swamy’s position as interim general secretary was confirmed. The row in the top leadership of the party kicked up after the death of J. Jayalalitha along with the arrest of V. Sasikala who was interim General secretary at that time.

A general meeting was held on 11th july 2022 in which amendments were passed for abolishing the post of interim general secretary which was being held by O.Panneerselvam  and given to Edappadi Palani Swamy’(EPS).

The Supreme Court has dismissed petitions against the division bench of Madras High Court orders. However, the matter dealing with the validity of the said meeting has not yet been decided.

The advocates of  O.Panneerselvam (OPS)  contested to restore the single bench’s order who had made it mandatory to have the consent of both OPS and EPS to hold a general meeting of the party. Senior Advocates C.S. Vaidyanathan, Aryama Sundaram, Mukul Rohatgi, and Atul Yeshwant Chitale, who were standing for EPS however dejected the idea saying that the High Court cannot intervene in the decisions of the AIADMK party as they were taken in the general council meeting.
