Two Delhi High Court judges request for transfer, SC Collegium issues resolutions recommending their transfer

In response to the transfer request by the two Delhi High Court judges, the Supreme Cout (SC) Collegium issued two resolutions on March 13, 2024. The SC Collegium recommended the transfer of two Delhi HC judges, Mr. Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva and Mr. Justice V Kameswar Rao to the Madhya Pradesh High Court and Karnataka High Court respectively.

While recommending the transfer of Justice Sachdeva, the Collegium resolution states, “By a communication dated 3 March 2024, Mr Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Judge, High Court of Delhi, has expressed willingness to be transferred to any Court. Acceding to his request, the Collegium resolves to recommend that Mr Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva be transferred, in the interest of better administration of justice, to the High Court of Madhya Pradesh.”

The resolution issued to represent the transfer of Justice Rao said that “By a communication dated 4 March 2024, Mr Justice V Kameswar Rao, Judge, High Court of Delhi, has requested for transfer to any other High Court. Acceding to his request, the Collegium resolves to recommend that Mr Justice V Kameswar Rao be transferred, in the interest of better administration of justice, to the High Court of Karnataka.” 

The five members of the Collegium, who issued the resolutions, are Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice B.R. Gavai, Justice Aniruddha Bose, and Justice Surya Kant.
