Web services shows are fiction, SC can't interfere: Apex Court rejects case against OTT’s Prime show

A year ago, the makers of a web show were accused of defaming the image of the state of UP and portraying UP and Mirzapur in a incorrect light.

Those producers Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar and Bhaumik Gondaliya were named in the plea. On 21 st September, the Apex Court rejected the case against the makers of Mirzapur.

The plea had asked for a removal of Mirzapur show. According to the complainant, in the web show the region of Mirzapur was shown in an incorrect light. They also got disturbed by seeing that the show features the Shakti Peeth.

After hearing, Justice D Y Chandrachud noted, "This is all fiction. Sorry we can't interfere. Dismissed."

When the lawyer made statements that , "Show(Mirzapur) shows the city in a bad light, a family is shown to have illicit relations within. They're showing the Shakti Peeth," Justice Chandrachud delivered, "These are all ultimately fiction."

When the lawyer strongly mentioned to the court that a previously notice was issued to the makers, the bench said, "We are not inclined, there is nothing in this matter. They have shown the city not the peeth. Dismissed."
