Section 157 CrPC is now Section 176 of the BNSS - the BNSS replaced the CrPC on 1 July 2024.

Section 176 BNSS Modified In clause (b) of subsection (1), audio - video electronic means are added. In subsection (2), the words , "forward the daily diary report fortnightly to the Magistrate" are added. Sub - section (3) is newly added, which stipulates forensic experts visit the crime scene as mandatory for offences punishable for seven years or more.

Section 157 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 deals with procedure for investigation. Under the new law this is Section 176 of the BNSS.
