On December 4, 2008, Sunil Yadav's brother Ram Sharan was shot dead near a grocery store in Begusarai by appellants Adalat and Anirudh Yadav and others, reportedly to stop Ram Sharan from testifying in another murder case. Sunil was also injured. While the trial court relied on multiple witnesses, the High Court upheld the conviction based solely on injured witness Sunil's testimony. The appellants challenged the conviction, arguing the FIR was delayed and medical evidence contradicted the eyewitness account regarding the wound location. The Supreme Court upheld the conviction, holding that an injured eyewitness of "sterling quality" can sustain conviction alone, and minor discrepancies between eyewitness and medical evidence on wound location do not undermine the core fact of a fatal head shot. The Court reaffirmed that evidence quality matters more than quantity.
