The Supreme Court considered challenges to the 2017 Rules on livestock market regulation and animal care, which the Madras High Court had stayed. The Court was informed the Government of India was reconsidering the Rules following representations about unworkable provisions, and the Ministry of Environment was preparing amendments. The Court directed that when amended Rules are notified, sufficient time must be granted to all stakeholders before implementation, enabling them to challenge the Rules if needed. The writ petitions were disposed of accordingly.
