Amish Devgan vs Union of India & Ors

Bench: 2 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

A television news anchor petitioned the Supreme Court challenging multiple criminal complaints filed across four states (Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Telangana) arising from a news debate show broadcast on 15 June 2020. The Court directed the petitioner to implead the actual complainants in the respective FIRs and granted interim protection from coercive action pending final hearing. The Court also required complainants to file links of the original broadcast within a week, allowing the matter to be properly adjudicated on its merits.
