Supreme Court of India 2017-06-06 dismissed

Aniruddha Ashok Sankhpal vs State of Maharashtra and Ors

Bench: 2 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

The appellant, a cricket player, applied for a Lower Division Clerk/Office Assistant position under sports-based reservation following a 2012 advertisement. After verification, the Directorate of Sports rejected his eligibility, noting his tournament was not recognized by the Maharashtra Olympic Association. His writ petition challenging this decision and the underlying Government Order was dismissed by the High Court. The Supreme Court upheld this dismissal, holding that the appellant could not challenge the Government Order for the first time before the Supreme Court when he had not done so before the High Court. The Court also found the rejection valid because the appellant failed to meet the prescribed condition that competitions must be organized by an authorized State Association affiliated to the Maharashtra Olympic Association.
