Asha Ranjan vs State of Bihar and Ors

Bench: 2 — <UNKNOWN>, <UNKNOWN>

In Brief

The widow of Rajdev Ranjan, a senior journalist murdered in May 2016, filed a writ petition seeking police protection for herself and her two children. Two principal accused persons were declared proclaimed offenders and remained absconding, allegedly associated with politically influential persons (respondents 3 and 4). The Court found the petitioner to be in continuous fear and granted interim police protection from the Superintendent of Police, Siwan District. The Court also directed the CBI to proceed with investigation and file a status report, recognizing the State's duty to protect vulnerable citizens from intimidation by powerful actors and to ensure fair investigation in cases involving political figures."
