The Supreme Court dismissed interlocutory applications filed by private medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh and others seeking extension of the 31 May 2017 deadline for medical college admissions. The Court held that an earlier order dated 9 May 2017 regarding manual counselling procedures applied only to undergraduate (MBBS) courses, not postgraduate courses. Consequently, a Ministry circular purporting to apply these procedures to postgraduate admissions was ineffective, being issued under misconception of the Court's order. The Court affirmed that time schedules approved for medical admissions must be strictly followed to protect educational standards, rejecting arguments for deadline extensions in those cases.
